Making $200 a day delivering in 2026
The old version of this article told readers to chase $200 a day on Postmates. That app is gone as a standalone courier product. Uber folded Postmates into Uber Eats. In 2026 the same kind of work is on Uber Eats, DoorDash, Grubhub, and, for groceries, Instacart.
$200 in a day is possible in a busy city on a long shift with strong tips. It is not a wage the apps promise. Pay is a mix of base pay, promotions, and customer tips, and it moves with the neighborhood, the hour, and the weather.
What actually moves the daily total
- Hours. Lunch and dinner, plus weekend evenings, still produce more orders than mid-afternoon.
- Tips. On these apps the tip is a large share of what the courier keeps. Declining no-tip, long-distance orders is a normal way drivers protect hourly pay.
- Market. A dense downtown can support a high day. A spread-out suburb often cannot, because unpaid miles eat the order.
- Expenses. Gas or bike maintenance, phone service, insurance, and taxes come out of the gross. Gig workers receive a 1099, not a W-2, and owe self-employment tax on net profit.
If the goal is $200 net, plan on more than $200 in app earnings. Track miles and set aside money for taxes. None of the major apps guarantees that daily number.
